Many of you have probably
read about the President's visit to New York with Michelle to get dinner and see a Broadway show, so I'm sure it's not big news. Still, I just want to mention how happy I am that, for their first Broadway show as a couple, they chose a straight play: the Lincoln Center revival of August Wilson's
Joe Turner's Come and Gone. The production opened in April to exceptional reviews, but the box office has been weak. There has been a glut of serious revivals of straight plays, and few people outside of critics seem to be excited by it. Hopefully, this will get more people excited about the show--and August Wilson--and make them more aware that there are straight plays on Broadway too.
Isn't it nice to have a president and first lady who support the arts?
